painting and painting tools

Tools for painting, painting and wallpaper work

The tools for painting and painting are not very different. If clean them carefully, they can be used for both purposes.

paint brushes
Paint brushes

The bristles or bristles of the brush are usually atfixed to the handle with a metal fitting. Best results are achieved with brushes from pig hair, which can be light for harder brushes or darker for softer. Artificial fiber brushes they are much more resistant, but give less results. By the way, there is a huge number different types of brushes: large and long, round, oval or flat - any of them with a special purpose. A large rectangular brush can do thatskins to be of different dimensions, but according to the work we want to do: smaller, for applying greasy or sinthetic colors; medium for water boYikes; large for coloring with lime and tempen. Medium rectangular brush size (14 x 4 centimeters) can be use for coating the first layer on any surface, because omogujava better penetration of the color in everything pores and bumps.

Round brushes are produced in differentclear sizes, with a diameter of approxva of twenty-forty-five thousandmeters. The ordinary ones serve above all for giving the final »hands« to the already smooth and prepared surfaces. They are better for synthetic and oily paints harder brushes (with light hair), and for enamel and Iakove based on nitrocellulose softer brushes are preferable (with tamnom hair) because they leave straightmore measuring trace.

Those brushes where the shackle tapers in the direction of the hair, they are most suitable for rough surfaces on wood or metal, as in house carpentry, blinds, fences, sheets that need to be varnished or cover with some anti-rust agent. Round brushes, so named because round fittings, can be used for all the previously mentioned works, with that which are especially suitable for larger ones surfaces, because they have the biggest shackles dimensions: from 30 x 45 to 45 x 60 mmmeters.

Flat brushes are intended for paintit flat surfaces. As before, are made in various widths (max those wide from 4 to 8 centimeters) and hard or soft hairs. The main advantage of these thki over the round is to make them flatmore evenly applied paint, so less skilled people can achieve good resultsTate.

brushes and rollers
The brush for radiators is flat and has a long handle (from 40 to 50 centimeters). A special form of fittings, which is bent at right angles, allows coloring and the most inaccessiblelower parts of the radiator, or other prethe target is of such a shape that it is ordinary hard or impossible straight with brushespaint sparingly. It usually has a harder i shorter hair. For such works it is possible also use a brush with a bent handlecom, where the hairs are arranged like this to form a roller. We use is by turning the handle, as with the knee hand drills, and at the same time pomeshoulder brush from the top to the bottom of the ribs radiator.

Brushes for special uses can be of the most diverse forms, according to to the work to be done, because they are used for sketching, for performing various pattern, for artistic painting and so on further.

The material for the brush is wood and hair. Because of the weight and size is usually used brush no. 5. Worn windshield brushes which cannot already be used for painting, can be used for washing paint and cleaning dishes. Brand new brush first should be used for soaping to wear down the ends of the hair a little. Awhen we remove the handle, the brush can be used even in a confined space space (behind radiators, stoves, etc.). The brush will be more permanent if before use the parts that come into contact with water, or paint, soak with linseed oil.

Round brushes usually have round or square handles. Since the entire length of hair is not needed for work, one section is used it is wrapped and tied with string, starting from the tin sleeve upwards. The untied part should have a length of 4-5 cm. This kind of brush is very suitable for painting the edges of doors, windows, corners and corners. (fig. 1, part 1).

A small brush (lioner) can be flat or round with a longer or shorter handle. For do-it-yourself jobs, a flat small brush with a width of 2-10 cm is usually suitable (fig. 1, part 3)

application of brushes
PICTURE 1

Spreaders (Vertreiber) are used to even out oil coatings. They have finer hairs and are suitable for leveling tough and uneven surfaces, but they can also be used for applying varnishes (fig. 1, part 2).

A brush made of artificial material is also widely used. For minor painting jobs, it is not worth buying a bristle brush, because we can make a brush from artificial material ourselves. Materials needed: a piece of thick artificial sponge, glue, scissors, razor blade and handle.

An unusable bristle brush should not be thrown away, because we can use the handle to make a new brush. Need outsidebrush the rest of the hair and put a sponge in the tin hair holder. If we ruined the tin holder during hair removal, then a piece of sponge and the handle should be wrapped in thick paper or stick it with a strip of artificial material. Then cut the sponge to the required length with a razor blade. Like this larger surfaces can also be painted with a brush.

brushes for painting and plastering

Brushes made of artificial material can also be used for making berries on the wall or furniture. A piece should be cut round sponge, stick it on the wooden handle (cut from a broom handle or made from lath) and then we can start making berries. If we don't have an old one brush handle, a piece of lath will do. You need scissors and cut the brush with a razor, make an opening on the upper side, place the handle and glue.

A brush made of artificial material is, perhaps, more suitable for making finishing lines, from a bristle brush. It should be cut sponge strip (determine the width as needed) and stick it on on a thin slat. We will be able to use this brush with the help of a ruler draw even lines.

Liner brushes are used to create finishing lines of 0,5-3 cm and have a long handle (Figure 2).

brushes for drawing lines
PICTURE 2

We can make a brush ourselves to draw lines. For that, we need a plastic bottle (for honey, deodorant, etc.) In the opening of the bottle, we need to place a strip of sponge or felt cut so that the dimensions of the section are 8 x 8 cm and the length is 3 cm. Two-thirds of the length of the tape should be in the bottle, and about 1/2 cm should protrude from the bottle. The pre-filled bottle with grain color should be held in a horizontal position and slightly pressed, so the color will constantly come out.

Brushes and cleaning brushes

We use brushes in all cases when it is necessary to thoroughly cleanmo some surface. Some useshere directly, and we can go to others attach a longer wooden pole. Steelwe don't use brushes primarily for cleaningcleaning and removing rust or crust from metalnih surfaces, and brushes made of softer fibershenna for fine scraping or thoroughly washing walls and household carpentry detergents.

Rollers and tampons

In the modern technology of dyeing they lose importance of conventional material and tools. So instead conventional painter-painter brushes are used pattern rollers. Rollers are made of rubber and using tanks they automatically compensate for the color applied to the wall.

For working with rollers, especially for accurate vertical populling, some experience is needed, especially if the room is high, so the retreat should start from the high ones ladder in an extended position, all the way to the bottom end position. It is recommended to start working next to a >>leader< (door, corner, etc.) and then the other vertical works have his >>leader<<.

The well-washed roller should be kept after finishing work in some oblong vessel, which is filled with glycerine. For painting surfaces without patterns, it is best to use the so-called >>teddy-roller<< made of artificial material with hairs. This roller it does not have a tank or an auxiliary roller for applying paint. Filling the roller will be easiest if the paint is poured into one an old but completely clean garbage shovel and soak it by rolling.

Rollers can successfully replace brushes when painting, and sometimes, when varnishing of large flat surfaces. That are usually walls, ceilings, but also larger wooden surfaces and others. They like it easy to handle and can be achieved good results. The best ones are made from ram (lamb) skins. Rollers with a long handlewhich are used for tempera painting and lime, with a medium length for colorsher bold and dark colors, ace short hair for re-layingalready varnished surfaces in order to got a nicer glaze. The rollers are the bestmore often they make in lengths of about 20 centimeters. Together with the roller proa special metal mesh is also provided with which we remove excess paint from the roller. Rubber rollers are also made, the surface of which israil embossed and used for obtaining various prints on ziprayers.

Tampons are intended for those who they want to paint the walls themselves. Tampon is made of plastic or metal rectangular support, on whicha cushion made of some son was fixed to methetic foam, covered with mohair fabricnino. It is attached to the stand handle. Since it is flat in shape, a tampon can be used for staining only flat surfaces, and that smooth or moderately rough. Use a tampon colors with circular or straight linesteam, and it is soaked with paint from the correspondingrolling pans with a roller.

Large tampons can be used instead of rollers for painting walls and ceiling. Those of medium size atthey are good for smaller areas. Since, then, and small tampons that are used for varnishing of frames, grills on windowsWell, in principle, narrow areas. Eatingbut with tampons, there are also special ones accessories that simplify work, like which are wheels - guides that make it possibleto paint in straight lines, protectors that prevent overflow bois, and so on.

Gas or gasoline lamp

The gas lamp produces a wide and no too hot a flame. Uses are in cases where they need to be removed larger areas of old and decayed paint, as, for example, with neglected woodnary. When we heat the paint with a flame it softens and is easy to remove with a regular spatula or scraper. At the same time, we have to be careful that the lamp should not be pointed at all the time one and the same place, but to move itwith light and continuous movements, while we remove the color with a spatula as quickly as possible.

Shovels and scrapers

Spatulas (spatulas) are flexible and soft pointed blades of steel that serve for leveling unevenness on the surfacerails before painting (holes, cracks). The simplest Iopatice are rightangular and without a handle, the so-called flip-flopblades, about 12 centimeters longtare and wide from 2 to 12 centimeters, so I can get closer to Iopatica to work on surfaces that are aspired to approaches. They are used more often, meyellow, Iopatice with a handle which can, in addition to applying putty, scrape on plaster, plaster, wood and metal. For painting works, the most suitable flexible, elastic spatula 8-12 cm wide.

Scrapers are also blades of steel, but much harder and more pointed, with firmwith that handle which are used for peeling and scraping off old deposits paint, decayed wallpaper, bark of all kinds and another. One particular type of scraper, with a triangular metal body andtrim ends, is used for processing small openings or cracks.

Other similar scrapers are also producedwith a different purpose, but with a different formwith bodies and blades (rectangularthose, oval, trapezoidal), which serve for scraping the most diverse vegetablesrail.

Buckets, colanders, disposal container brushes

Buckets are used for preparation and storage color and we need at least two. Sassvim are also suitable for those made of plastic, with handle, so we can hang them on the ladder when we paint high wallsve or ceilings. When buying paint in packages from 25 to 30 kilograms, often the packaging itselfforged paint can serve instead buckets.

When we paint with a roller, very useful we will have shallow rectangular tubsfoot shape, in which evenly mowe are going to apply paint to the roller. Strainers are made of coarser or finer material of braided brass mesh and a halfwe need them when the color requires fillingtrining. When we want to get perfectly homogeneous color, we can use a nylon stocking that is great filter.

The container for storing brushes is includedneeded when work is interrupted for some more or less longer period. In him, the brushes remain in a hanging position, dipped in water or suits someoneyesterday's solvent, so that the hairs are not deformed and remain softnot. It can also serve the same purpose some other suitable container.

Wetting brush and sponge

The wetting brush is made of vegetable fibershenna of a certain length. The district has themlih and rectangular and are mostly larger dimension. We use them for washinge walls to remove dust, or only for wetting, if we scrape on wet previous layers of paint. Sponges are used for washing and cleaning, and sometimes to pick up the remains fresh paint from any surface. Natural sponges are the best, but artificial, of plastic materials, many are eco-friendlymore nomic.

Putty, sandpaper and self-adhesive tape

Putty is used to fill holes, justtin and unevenness on the surfaces which we want to paint. When buying, trelet's indicate on which material we will work (wall, wood, iron) and yes are we going to use the putty in a room or in the field.

Sandpaper can be of different finenesswill (gradations), and serves for cleaning surface rust from the metal, leveledremoval of rough surfaces, smoothing fromputty surfaces and others. Code Iathe previous layers of varnish are applied beforesandpaper of the finest grain. We use self-adhesive tape beforewe hide the parts we don't want to paint drips during operation. The most suitable is a self-adhesive strip of crepe paper, because it is easier to remove after completion work.

Apparatus for coloring by spraying

There are many devices that are used for spray painting: from simplehand pumps, the use of which you we do not advise, but which still byonly painters use for fast coloring, to very effective, but as well as expensive professional appsrata, composed of chest pistolskanje and suitable compressors for air. But for a modest amateur work the latter are certainly notappropriate. Between these two extremes there is a large selection of good appliances features that are intended precisely to those who work alone. Bottles with compressed air (spray-bočice) are very easy to useneed. There is already enough color in them diluted and strongly compressed with one gas. When activated, it respondsvalve with small opening, color comes out under sufficiently high pressure to spread finely over the surface. For good outcome of working with these bottles, it is necessary to read carefully the instructions provided with them. Electric spray guns are the mostmore economical. With them, the system for pumping consists of a small lever, crankshafts, whose alternating movement enables electric current. That's right sufficient flow is produced everywhereha to disperse the color from the attached rezervoara. These guns make it simpleby connecting to electricity network in the house. However, the pressure that gets this way is relatively ogrenichen, and it is important that the previous color grades well. In the newer moworks, however, a bite is already achievedmore advanced jet, and with the possibility of podeof the range of jets, they give frompersonal results, even when you use themunskilled hands of amateurs. WriteThere are a lot of air compressorsmore integrated and efficient. Except professionnal compressors, there are many smaller and cheaper, without a tank for compressed air. It's about apawars that can produce sleepa direct jet of air points to the appropriate gun for splashing. Compressors of this type they can be with autonomous funkzionization, i.e. with built-in masheet metal, or even without it. U in this second case, the device is preseen to connect to electricity a drill.

electric paint gun

The syringe gun is very rarely used on the "do-it-yourself" principle sam", because the device is quite expensive and requires certain expertise. Nitro-varnishes can also be obtained in the form of aerosol sprays in bottles of 16 dkg. In a similar way are already packed and silver paints for stoves, acrylic varnishes and metal protection varnishes. They exist for spray painting a few simple but very important rules. Bottles before use should be kept at a temperature of 18-20°C and before shake well before use. In this way we will liquid homogenize and spray will be better. When spraying the distance between the spray opening and the surface of the object it should be 25-30 cm. Vertical surfaces should be if possible, spray so that the bottle moves horizontally parallel to the surface of the object, because the thickness willthe smear should only be uniform in this case. At the beginning When spraying, a larger amount of liquid always comes out and it is too muchmanually take some thicker paper and start spraying on it a after that continue spraying the desired surface to paint. The coating applied in an arcing motion will not be flatmeasured, it will be thicker in the middle and thinner at the ends (fig. 3).

spray painting
PICTURE 3

The bottle must not be tilted too much even when paint horizontal surfaces, especially not when already there is hardly any color in the bottle. The direction of spraying should be consistent maintain and perform the operation with quick movements back and forth, applying a very thin layer on the surface and in the case the total required coating thickness needs to be applied in more layers. Drying time between two layers should be minimal 5 minutes. There is usually more in seemingly empty bottles liquid that we will be able to use if we turn the bottle over by 180° around the longitudinal axis. After turning the bottle, you should readjust the atomizer (and turn the head). If it is already a little color in the bottle, it is extremely important that the color promućka, because (from the settled color) the tone of the surface will be different.

The bottles usually contain 16 dkg of nitro paint, which is enough for painting about 2,5 m2 surface. For complete drying byit takes 12 hours. After use, the sprayer should clean it well by turning the bottle to the atomizer be down and at the same time press the spray head all while color is observed in the beam. In this case, the end of the supply line the tube is above the liquid level, and cleaning is done using gas. Be careful not to use too much gas for cleaning, i.e. if we notice that only gas comes out, we should stop using itby pressing the spray head. The environment of the sprayer should clean with a cotton swab soaked in thinner.

If the ball in the bottle does not react to shocks, i.e. don't gurgle the color is thickened in the bottle. This color, i.e. you don't need a bottle buy!

Empty bottles (and of course filled ones) are poisonous, flammable and explosive, and must not be opened or thrown into fire!

Scaffolding is also used for painting and painting works which should be about 1 m high. Care should be taken with scaffolding that, especially if they are placed on top of each other (extended), to be firmly placed. Recommended for those who rarely use double ladders is to equip the ladder with such accessories, which provide more comfortable and safer work.

Ordinary ladders are also often used, especially for work in the apartment and for other household chores. Working on this ladder is very unpleasant and tiring, and often dangerous, and that's why it is recommended to create supplementary safety measures for these ladders elements. When cleaning windows, putty, you should make sure that the ends of the ladder do not break the window. Before is bestventiva for this to attach the slats to the ends of the ladder longer than the width of the window.

Tool for wallpaper works

Under the upholstery work, I'm sorryordinary wall coverings are moving wallpaper, change of fabric to namoving (with a change of springs, kailarks and ribbons) and, although only partially, covering the floors with carpeting. In pithinner is the work that requires minimal tool, but great skill and a lot of heatmine. Anyway, if we are a little more skillful and precise, we can also to have success in those jobs.

For wallpapering on walls you need: triangular scraper for edge repair; one spatula (spatula) with a wooden handle and one trowel tip liner for puttyoutside walls with deep holes and cracks; a pair of large scissors for cutting wallpaper, one very sharp knife for cutting ends and parts which protrude at the edges of the wall and ceiling and at door and window frames; one roller for pressing joints, leftnjir of a certain length, preferably of metal, as a knife guide; one flat brush for even presmearing with glue either paper or walls; one large wetting brush walls; one scrubbing brush for what better pressing of the wallpaper on the walls; one plumb bob to control verticality joints.

It's good that we have some work, untilwillingly long surface. In the storerooms can be found, at affordable prices prices, folding tables with with legs for upholsterers, which unfoldthey have dimensions of about 2m x 0,5 m. Folded, they occupy mezero space. There are even comknits that contain all accessories and tools for wallpaper installation.

Zand ease of work the device that comes is used from Germany: it is a single species wide pliers with an elastic gripkama (tongues) that enable to hold the upper end with one hand wallpaper and with the right, free, yes nice wallpaper for the wall.

A "Stanley" knife (according to to the name of the manufacturer who made it first put on the market). It's simple tool, with a larger number of additional priwrinkle. It has a metal crimped handle for better grip in the hand, and short blade, several centimeters longko, which ends with a spike. It's a blade sharpened only on the long side, parallel to the handle. This knife serves for many purposes: when you need to cut veneer or thin plywood, cardboard, leather, artificial leather, parchment, carpet and itison for floors. Since, amongteam, always the end part of the blade most generallyin other words, it should be changed often. Bythere are series of these blades of different shapesand can also be used for a fine tablelaria and modeling.
